Preparation and x-ray diffraction studies of nanocomposites of PMMA/PEG modified organoclays

G.M.Shashidhara, Shwetha Krishna, Soumyadeb Ghosh

The current work involves the study of the intercalation of Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) into various organically modified nanoclays. The various factors affecting the intercalation such as the organoclay modifier, PEG molecular weight and clay-polymer ratio were investigated. The effect of PEG on the dispersion of these clays in Poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) matrices was studied. The characterization of the nanocomposites morphology was carried out by making use of X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission ElectronMicroscopy (TEM).
