Simultaneous RP HPLC determination of clotrimazole and tinidazole in pharmaceutical preparations

A simple, fast and precise reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic method is developed for the simultaneous determination of clotrimazole and tinidazole using metronidazole as an internal standard. Chromatographic separation of the two drugs was performed on a inertsil C18 column (250mmï‚´4.6 mm, 5m) as stationary phase with amobile phase comprising of 0.1%ortho phosphoric acid: acetonitrile (50:50 v/v), at a flow rate of 0.7mL min-1 and UV detection at 215nm. The proposed method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision and limit of quantitation. Linearity, accuracy and precision were found to be acceptable over the ranges of 100-300g mL-1 for clotrimazole, 250-750µg mL-1 for tinidazole. It can be conveniently adopted for routine quality control analysis.
